My '68 is a Euro-spec (obviously) that was imported to the states through a US Customs auction in the mid 70's, where it was purchased by the previous owner. He used it for an autocross car, and then it sat in the garage for quite some time before he decided to sell it. It had 15 year old enamel paint job, ripped carpets, and seats out of a 944- prettyragged out. I took it home and now it is in much better shape. It's very original looking. I got the interior for it out of a wrecked '68 911, and had the seats redone but everything else (door panels, armrests, dash, etc.) were in perfect shape under years of grime.

Anyway, the car was originally a Sportomatic, changed to a 901 5 speed by the previous owner. I have the original transmission and shifter, but I'm not too interested in putting that back in the car, I like the 5 speed very much. The car also has an electric sunroof, the entire roof section is from a different car! Apparently, when it was brought into the states it had quite a bit of rust, and the previous owner had the roof section welded on. You'd never know it unless you pulled the interior trim away from the roof pillars, where you can see the welds. It's a great job, looks like it's always been there!

The motor is the original 2.0 with webers, except that I've had it rebuilt with 2.2 S pistons, cylinders, heads (with 46 x40 valves), custom exhaust, Jet Hot coated original heat exchangers, and the carbs have been redone with 32mm venturis and bigger jets and what not. Makes much more power than it used to! I even ran it at the drag strip one night here in Denver to see what it would do and it ran an altitude corrected 15.09 at 93.58mph! Not too bad considering I was easing it off the start- clutch jobs are expensive!
The bottom end on the motor was checked out and deemed fine for 7000rpm if I wanted to rev it higher to take advantage of the extra breathing, and that makes quite a bit of difference. It will pull to 130mph really quickly, although that's not much of a stretch for a stock 911 of that vintage. I really want to put a taller 5th gear in it to drop the revs on the highway, plus give me some more top end should I ever get to drive it on a track where I could take advantage of it!

Underneath, the car has the usual turbo tie rod ends and bigger torsion bars, it corners absolutely flat and it a fantastic handling car. The brakes are stock with good street brake pads. I changed the instrumentation a little inside- since it has a 5 speed now I found a correct '68 DRUCK and PRESS gauge with the numbers instead of the Sportomatic's colored band, which keeps the stock appearance. I have the original KM/H speedo, but I am using a correct MPH one so I don't drive myself nuts doing conversions in my head while I drive. I replaced the clock (still have it) with a custom AMP/VOLT gauge I had made by North Hollywood Speedometer. It looks absolutely stock, and I can better keep tabs on my electrical system. I had the car weighed at a truck scale on the highway a few weeks ago while I was driving back down from Mt. Rushmore to Denver. (This is my fun road trip car!)

The car weighed 2560 pounds. That's with 3/4 of a tank of gas, all my gear for the weekend, and me, and I weigh about 175. I was pretty happy with that. Well, this has been a pretty rambling email but I wanted to let you know how this 911T has fared over the years. I don't ever plan on selling it. It sits in the garage with my other toy, a '65 Sunbeam Tiger! I like to think that they have spirited discussions about the Axis vs. the Allies into the night...
